NEET 2014 Cancelled ( Supreme Court Verdict)

The Supreme Court on Thursday quashed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission in medical colleges.
The NEET is a single entrance-cum-eligibility-test for admission in all medical colleges in India.
By a two to one majority, the apex court held that the Medical Council of India had no powers to conduct single entrance examination and force it on government and private medical colleges.
The admission already made through NEET this year will not be disturbed, said Chief Justice Altamash Kabir and justice Vikramjit Sen, who formed majority in a 3-judge bench.
Justice A R Dave dissented, saying the NEET was valid and it was good for the students and society at large.
The court’s decision came on 115 petitions challenging the MCI notification on NEET for admission to MBBS and post-graduate medical courses conducted in colleges across the country.
On May 13, the court had lifted the bar on declaration of results of examinations that had already been conducted and said the admission process could go ahead.
It had modified its December 13, 2012 order by which it had stated that MCI, Dental Council of India, as well as the states, universities and other institutions, will be entitled to conduct their respective examinations for MBBS, BDS and post-graduate courses but shall not declare their results until further orders.
The bench had earlier directed transfer of all petitions pending in various courts to it by January 15, this year.

"Reference Books for Effective JEE Preparation"

Points to remember while selecting IIT JEE study material
  • Aim at getting a deep understanding of concepts: A deep conceptual knowledge is required for solving high standard problems of JEE. Therefore the IIT JEE study material and preparation books that you choose must match your understanding of the topics. A book that works well for your friend might not be good for you. For instance, Irodov is a great book for students at an advanced level of understanding, and would not work well for a beginner.
  • Set your priorities straight: There are many preparation books available in the market which leaves the students perplexed as to which are the ones really worth investing in. It is advisable to set your priorities straight:
    • First strengthen your conceptual basics, for which one might give a thorough reading to beginner level books like      NCERT books (i.e. the books followed by CBSE board for class XI and class XII).
    • Once you are thorough with the concepts, only then the mock tests and high level books for IIT JEE and AIEEE books would prove to be of any help.
    • Don’t overdo it, referring to too many books can leave you confused.
    • Literally “Never judge a book by its cover”: Different authors might take different approaches to the same problem, so take some effort to get your hands on the best preparation books (according to your understanding) in addition to NCERT books. Don’t be misguided by jazzy titles, authors with impressive names, higher prices or big publishing houses. Sometimes the best preparation books are the most inexpensive ones.
  • A set of books from our side.
JEE Chemistry:
1.  NCERT Chemistry 11th and 12th class: The NCERT chemistry books are quite exhaustive in the content aspect. The intext and exercise problems are on a very basic level and cover each and every part of the chapter. Use these books to develop sound fundamentals first, and then move on to more advanced level problems from other books and material.
2. P. Bhadhur Objective: It’s one of the most highly recommended books for physical chemistry for any engineering entrance exam. The set of problems in the book are very exhaustive. The problems available are from state level engineering entrance exams to JEE  for each chapter in the book.
3. Arihant Organic Chemistry Objective (Optional): NCERT theory is sufficient for organic and Inorganic but to undergo extra practice, students can refer to Arihant publication books which are re-published each year based on the current pattern of JEE.
Few other books that you can use to pickup some quality problems - O.P Tandon and Arihant Objective for IIT JEE
JEE Physics:
1. NCERT Physics 11th and 12th class: Physics NCERT textbook have been written marvellously well for Physics. The technical language is the first barrier you will face with these books, but it will only prepare you well for JEE. In JEE the first barrier is the language barrier, i.e you need to first comprehend what the problem states.
2. H.C.Verma: It was written by a Prof. from IIT-Kanpur in the early 90′s. It’s the only book till now which has explained all the concepts precisely with a very exhaustive set of problems. The problems of this book provokes analytical reasoning and helps develop strategy to apply concepts in every possible way.
3. Resnick, Halliday & Walker (Optional): This book is referred as additional reading material to further understand the theory of each chapter. Each and every concept is explained to the finest detail with multiple examples for each concept.
Few other books that you can use to pickup some quality problems - I.E Irodov and Concepts of Physics G.C. Agarwal

JEE Mathematics:
1. NCERT Maths 11th and 12th: The problems in the book are basic and easy. Most of the problems can be solved orally by the student. This book should be covered very early in one’s preparation.
2. A. Das Gupta Objective: It’s a practice book for each chapter, and a good indicator of your understanding of each chapter. ‘Practice makes perfect’ and this is the motto of this book.
3. S.L. Loney for Trigonometry and Coordinate Geometry: The author has written the book in a very exhaustive manner, in-fact even PhD students use these books. For ideal preparation it’s always preferred to have a mentor to guide the student on which part of the book is solved and which part can be left out.
4. G.N. Berman: This book is specifically used for Calculus, and on every concept in every chapter a number of different problems are available. Don’t use this book beyond Calculus as it contains higher level mathematics, which is not at all needed for JEE.
Few other books that you can use to pickup some quality problems - I.A Maron and A Das Gupta Subjective.

Breaking the Code---"Board or IITJEE"

Certainly one of the biggest question among the folks preparing for IITJEE is whether to focus more on boards or on the JEE exams. Some people say that boards are very important. True. But some people say that by only reading for boards, you cannot secure a good rank in IITJEE. Again true. So for which one shall we go for?

Some say that focusing more on board will ruin your JEE and some say that focusing more on JEE will ruin your board exams. I will say that both the statements are highly exaggerated. According to me it’s true that if you are focusing only on board exams then getting a good rank in IITJEE has lesser probability because JEE requires more depth in knowledge of concepts. It has questions based on more than single concepts. Whereas reading for board exam is more about a mixture of learning concepts as well as memorizing. Moreover the questions asked in board exams are generally straight forward and not multiple-concept based. But at the same time, cracking JEE requires clarity in basic concepts which is what board exams ask. So the conclusion is for a good rank in IITJEE, a good preparation of board exams is very helpful but the converse is not true i.e. just by having a good preparation of board exams, it’s difficult to crack IITJEE. In the next paragraph I will explain you how to synchronize between the two exams.

The syllabus of inorganic chemistry is same as the syllabus of combined chemistry of 11th and 12th of CBSE. During my preparation, I read inorganic chemistry only from the NCERT’s book. I will also suggest you to try out (and keep in mind the answers of) the questions at the end of the chapters. Similarly whenever you read a topic in any of the three subjects, just try out the question of the corresponding chapter from NCERT. If you have really prepared that topic well enough for IITJEE then you should be able to solve the problems of the NCERT book because they are the most basic questions. Further the number of questions in NCERT books is not very large. So it will take very less time for you to do them. Some of the chapters like ‘surface chemistry’ and ‘solutions’ have very good solved examples in NCERT book. Use the NCERT books as your concept revision tool. Whenever you want to revise a topic in short time or you want to just surf through the basic concepts of some chapter, just try out some of the solved examples and problems at the end of the chapter from the NCERT book.

Some students have misconception that by reading NCERT/solving problems from NCERT books is of little help towards the preparation of IITJEE. But believe me when you will try out the problems, you will certainly find that some of them are quite conceptual. Also if you are able to do questions from the book then be sure that you know the basic concepts of the chapter. So you can treat NCERT as a benchmark to test your basics. I hope that by now you have understood that board exam preparation is an integral part of the IITJEE preparation.

We will thus be taking both competitons and JEE hand in hand..

" Get Motivated to Study for IITJEE "

If you ask IITians about the top 5 factors that they believe lead to their success in IITJEE, one thing you will surely find is that they were highly motivated to enter into IIT. Many times while studying, it happens that you lose your concentration, your mood switches to "non-studying mode" or some irrelevant things bother you and eventually you end your study and start doing something else. The best way to tackle all these problems and remain focused is to remain motivated for IIT. But how? It is simple: you need to do same as other successful candidates did.

The first rule is that never just think of getting into IIT but think of getting into IIT with good rank. Choose the branch and department you will like to go in and then every time your mind diverts, just ask yourself, "Whether the level of hard work I am doing is going to get me my desired rank, whether I will be able to get my desired branch by studying this much". If your brain answers "no" then you need to study more. It does not matter whether your class rank is fifteenth or first. No one can say that you cannot beat the first ranker of your class on the final day.

I remember during my preparation days of IITJEE, I dreamed of getting AIR 1 (Although my class rank in my coaching institute was not that promising but I still dreamed this from the bottom of my heart). I imagined myself giving interviews on news channels after getting AIR 1. Though this may sound funny to you but it worked for me. Every time I felt little bit sleepy or out of mood to study, I used to ask myself, what the person who is going to get AIR 2 would be doing (as I told you, I imagined myself as AIR 1) and if the answer would be studying, then I also had to study so that to maintain my AIR 1. My motivation factor was AIR 1. Similarly you need to find your motivation factor. It can be anything. Some of my friends shared with me their motivation factors which are- fear of paying huge amount to study in private college if could not get into an IIT, the quality of life inside the IIT, the fun and opportunities IITians have, to go abroad for higher study or job, etc.

Remember the old saying that the great battles are won in mind. So start battling in your mind. Find out your motivation factor and use it properly.

And Remember WE WOULD  ALWAYS BE BY YOUR SIDE TO ACHIEVE THE TAG OF IIT !!!
